Imperium was a top strategy Warhammer 40k player who held the world record for most wins in 1st edition. In October of 2018, he announced that he would be retiring from competitive play to focus on family and work instead. What does this mean for players?
Warhammer 40,000 has been a game of unparalleled longevity and success. Its popularity is due to its unique setting in the fictional universe where there are no rules other than those set by the players. Now that an open beta for Warhammer Eternal Crusade exists on Steam, it’s time to evaluate which factions stand out from all others when it comes to competitive play at this late date. This article will be a list of winning lists for the Warhammer 40k game. It is meant to take an in-depth look at how some scenarios were won, and what tactics could have allowed another player’s win.

- Third Place List for Imperium’s Decay
First place goes to Imperium’s Decay. Grey Knights — Eric Hoeger
Mineraleater’s Grey Knight Paladin Stave (Wh40k)
Eric Hoeger is the winner of the Imperium’s Decay Warhammer 40k Tournament. Eric ended with 480 points and went unbeaten out of a potential 500 points. This list had four Dreadknights, who provided a powerful Distraction Carnifex that was restored three wounds at a time courtesy to the Techmarine’s Aetheric Conduit.
After someone casts Empyric Lodestone, Swordbearers provide an army-wide +1 to strike and +1 to wound with the Dreadknights. Tough troops, such as Knights, are further penalized by Empyric Amplification, which allows for more damage to be dealt to them for assaults that hit and hurt them.
Warp Shaping allows Kaldor Draigo to manipulate the tides and the Gate of Infinity allows him to transfer troops. While Strike Squads need to roam about or when playing peekaboo with psychic abilities, this is a great option. Caster Vortex of Doom and then removing the casting unit from line of sight is an example.
Congratulations on winning the Imperium’s Decay Warhammer 40k Tournament in first place!

Second place went to Imperium’s Decay. Imperium of Simeon Pollard – Guard and Custodes
brushray’s fanart of Gray Knight
Simeon overcame the third-place player early in round one and could have easily grabbed first position on the list. This is because of a few essential aspects of his army. There are a lot of salvo launchers. While Salvo Launchers lack the firepower of Hurricane Bolters, they do have AP-4 and the ability to reroll wounds. It’s ideal for punching Dreadknights. Because Dreadknights have a low range, the Vertus Praetors have plenty of room to counter charge with Stooping dive. Vertus Praetor’s melee at strength 6 is dependable when rerolling wound dice on the charge. Regrettably, the damage is d3 in nature. Fire volume and dependability The Venatari and the Caladius Grav-tanks deal Damage 2. They are still affected by the shield captain’s reroll 1’s to hit rule. Units may also be redeployed using the Castellan mark.
In this army, the Guard plays a significant role. The Warlord’s first task is to create CP for the whole army. Grand Strategist’s additional reroll may be utilized by the whole army. Grand Strategist and Kurov’s Aquila, on the other hand, are both ways to maintain or obtain a Command point. Action monkeys may be found in both the scions and the cheap crusader teams. Retrieve Octarius data and engage on all fronts using this tool. Screening out two-man Crusader teams is difficult. The Scions, on the other hand, are difficult to screen out with the Daring Decent Stratagem since they can deep strike from just over 5″ out. This permits them to keep their focus on anything other than the opponent.
Congratulations for a strong showing in second place and an intriguing list.

Third Imperium’s Decay Grey Knights’ Keith Wilkinson
cmartek’s Ordo Malleus
During round one, Keith Wilkinson was knocked out of contention for first and second place. Grit and determination, on the other hand, contributed to a third-place finish. You did a fantastic job this weekend in resisting the Imperium’s Decay by never yielding. Keith Wilkinson’s list isn’t the same as the first. A double patrol was utilized to get around the Grand Master’s Dreadknight restriction in Nemesis, allowing for a total of 5 Dreadknights on the list. Of course, two patrols will cost more Command points, but the Prescient Brotherhood have devised a strategy that allows them to reroll 1s to wound. When you consider the number of assaults Grey Knight troops can make, it’s fantastic. In addition, the Warlord gains +1 to wound with the Hammer of Righteousness. This implies that on a 2+, this warlord can hurt Titans by rerolling 1s.
When coupled with Deadly Efficacy and Symphonic Strike, the Rapiers Detachment may unleash even more strikes. Those two work together to add 1 more attack per model before exploding 6s to strike all for 1 more hit.
Teleport attack may be utilized with First into the Fray and several Deepstrike skills. While Purifying Ritual is a generally solid secondary, certain armies make it tough to cast.
Again, congratulations for persevering in the face of adversity and on finishing third.
