The “the dark pictures: house of ashes – PlayStation 5” is a horror game that has been released for the PlayStation 5. The game is set in an apocalyptic future where the world has been destroyed and you must escape from it.
My favorite season of the year is autumn. I like the colder weather, hearty meals, and the increased attention on horror in the media. Every year around Halloween, I discover a scary game that I’ve never played before and play it exclusively. Over the last several years, gamers have been fortunate to have The Dark Pictures Anthology titles to satisfy their need for games that make them want to turn on an additional light before going to bed. The title of this year’s episode is House of Ashes, and it did not disappoint in terms of terrifying me in front of the television!
If you’re unfamiliar with The Dark Pictures Anthology games, they’re a survival horror interactive drama video game in which you make decisions that have a big influence on how the game plays out. Remember the Choose Your Own Adventure novels that were popular in the 1990s, for those of us who are a little older? That’s what these games are all about. Every decision in House of Ashes has an impact on the result, and most crucially, the lives of the characters. My gaming experience and conclusion may vary greatly from yours.
House of Ashes is set in Iraq in 2003. The majority of the key protagonists were ordered to fight in the conflict that erupted in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York. Eric, one of the marines, created a satellite that is meant to observe what is under the land’s surface. As a result, when his satellite identifies an area where Saddam Hussein is suspected of keeping weapons of mass devastation, your squad mobilizes.
While ensuring that all of your characters survive the game is the primary goal, developing connections amongst characters is also important. The way you connect with one another may have a big impact on things like trust and love. Do you attempt to assist the married couple in resolving their differences, or do you try to drive a gap between them since the woman has already begun seeing someone else?
House of Ashes is truly stunning, and I can’t say enough about it. Who would have guessed that a game set underground could yet be graphically stunning?! One of the major characters, Rachel, is played by Ashley Tisdale. If I didn’t know any better, there were instances when I was so engrossed in the game that I mistook myself for someone watching a movie with actual characters.
Many of the action-related scenarios in The Dark Pictures Anthology games are performed using various sorts of QTEs, which will be readily recognized by fans of the series. I was a little concerned going into House of Ashes since my reflexes aren’t what they used to be when I was in my twenties. However, praise the Creator! For those of you who are like me, there are now options to be notified when a QTE is about to appear, allowing you to prepare for a button prompt. Some may consider this cheating, but I view it as another another technique to ensure that more people can enjoy the game!
The time it took me to complete House of Ashes was about 6 hours. If you’re curious about the effects of additional choices, there’s a chapter pick option available after you’ve completed the game!
House of Ashes was one of my favorite books. It was the ideal length and dragged me down a rabbit hole (maybe larger) while telling a great narrative. Even some of the characters I didn’t care for at the start became important to me by the conclusion of the game. I’m looking forward to the next part, which will be presented to you at the conclusion of House of Ashes.
