It’s official: part 2 of Dune is coming!

It’s official! Legendary science fiction author Frank Herbert’s sequel to his 1965 bestseller Dune is finally being made into a film directed by Denis Villeneuve. The director of Arrival, Sicario, and Prisoners has already confirmed the project with an announcement trailer. But what battles are ahead for this new adaptation?

The “when is dune part 2 coming out” is the question that has been on everyone’s minds. We finally have an answer! Dune will be coming out in 2024.

Legendary has given the go-ahead for Dune 2, meaning Denis Villeneuve will return to finish the tale. The answer is simple: the first part’s resounding success.

Dune 2 is presently in its final stages of development. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune had a fantastic opening weekend in theaters and on HBO Max, and Legendary’s official social media account has announced that there will be a sequel, now named “Dune: Part 2,” with an opening (teaser) picture. It was also revealed that the sequel would be released on October 20, 2024, and that the premiere will most likely be limited to theaters (unless COVID intervenes – ed.).

This is only the start…

Thank you to everyone who has seen @dunemovie so far, as well as those who will be seeing it in the coming days and weeks. We’re looking forward to continuing our trip!

After directing, producing, and co-writing the first Dune, Denis Villeneuve returns. “I have just gotten confirmation from Legendary that we can officially move ahead with Dune,” the filmmaker stated in a statement about the sequel. It has always been a goal of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s masterpiece, and I am grateful to the fans, cast and crew, Legendary, and Warner Bros. for their support. This is just the start.”

“We are happy to continue this adventure with him, the cast and crew, and our partners at Legendary,” said Toby Emmerich, President of Warner Bros. Picture Group. “We look forward to the next chapter of this epic saga in theaters in October 2024,” he said.

“Legendary is ecstatic to begin work on the sequel to the film. Legendary Studios has said that the film is “based on Frank Herbert’s fantastic book.” “Without Denis’ remarkable vision and skill, our writers, our star cast, our Warner Bros. partners, and, of course, the incredible labor of our fans, we wouldn’t have come this far!” “Here’s to more Dune!” says the narrator.

Denis Villeneuve had always meant to develop a sequel to Dune, which he had envisioned as the first half of a two-part plot. The project, however, has not been formally approved, and officials are waiting to see how the public reacts to the sci-fi epic. Fortunately, the picture outperformed all expectations and, despite debuting on the same day as HBO Max, took first place at the box office. What’s more, most people liked what they saw in the original Dune. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an 84 percent approval rating, with an even higher 91 percent audience approval rating.

Although the film is based on Frank Herbert’s original 1965 book, which also inspired David Lynch’s iconic 1984 film of the same name, Villeneuve co-wrote Dune with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth. Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgrd, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem are among the cast members of the new version.

“Paul Atreides, a clever and intelligent young man born into a tremendous destiny he does not comprehend,” writes Frank Herbert in The Dune, “must journey to the universe’s most perilous planet to protect the future of his family and people.” Only those who can overcome their concerns will live as malicious powers fight for the planet’s unique supply, the most valuable resource in existence — a commodity capable of unleashing humanity’s ultimate potential.”

The Dune is presently available in theaters and on HBO Max.
